Start your journey into QGIS development by building your first plugin. This beginner-friendly workshop will help you understand how plugins work and gain hands-on experience creating a plugin from scratch. The workshop will teach you how to build a simple plugin that allows you to easily load your favorite basemap in QGIS with just a click. We will start with a minimal plugin template and learn how to add features and user interface. Finally, you will be able to package your plugin and share with your friends and colleagues.

Pre-requisites: You will need a recent version of QGIS (QGIS 3.40 recommended) and your favorite Text Editor installed on your computer. Knowledge of Python and PyQGIS is helpful, but is not required. You may use any text editor for this workshop. If you do not have a favorite text editor, install one of the recommended beginner-friendly and free text editors from the list below.

      • Windows: Notepad++ is a good free editor for windows.
      • Mac: TextMate is an open-source editor for Mac that is simple yet powerful.

This is a 2-hour workshop - find your time zone:

      • 8am to 10am Pacific/AZ
      • 9am to 11am Mountain
      • 10am to 12pm Central

As women in GIS, we often face unique challenges in articulating our impact—especially as our careers evolve. Whether you're exploring new opportunities or simply want to keep your materials current, this session offers a collaborative space to reflect on how you present your professional story. We'll review resume best practices with a focus on the specific challenges mid-career professionals face—translating years of experience into concise, compelling narratives. Bring your resume for feedback, see how others in the field frame their accomplishments, and share advice with peers who may struggle to "toot their own horns." You don't have to be job-hunting to benefit—any of us may need to produce a strong written record of our work at a moment’s notice. Instead of scrambling later, prepare now. You'll leave with actionable steps to improve how others perceive your resume—and with renewed confidence in the value of your experience.

Participants Key Takeaways from the Workshop

        • Learn how to frame your professional experience with clarity and confidence—especially the contributions that often go unrecognized.
        • Learn how to tailor your resume to reflect both technical expertise and leadership growth over time.
        • Develop strategies to toot your own horn (gracefully), accenting your impact without feeling self-promotional or uncomfortable.
        • Leave with a clear plan for updating your resume—even if you're not currently job searching—so you’re ready when opportunity knocks.

        Time: 12pm – 3pm PT/AZ (1pm-4pm MT; 2pm-5pm CT; 3pm-6pm ET)

        Open to anyone – WiGIS member: $20; Non-Member $40
