North American Mentoring Programs

Geospatial Professional Network Mentoring Network

The Geospatial Professional Network (formerly URISA) Mentoring Network fosters relationships between young GIS professionals and experienced mentors who can provide insight, share knowledge, and support mentees in their professional growth. 

This is a 4-month cohort-based program. Geospatial Professional Network membership is not required.

Arizona Geographic Information Council

The AGIC Mentoring Program was developed to provide and support professional development for Arizona geospatial professionals.  Applications for the program open October 1 and close December 31 of each year.

Oregon and SW Washington Chapter's URISA Program

This  6 month mentor program was created to match mentees with mentors from among the numerous experienced NACIS members whose knowledge and insight will serve as a resource to the mentees. This program is designed to foster professional development and career growth and provides an opportunity for colleagues to establish a trusting mentor/mentee partnership.

Minnesota GIS Consortium's Mentorship Program

This mentorship program offers mentees a valuable chance to seek advice from experienced GIS professionals. The program is available year-round.

Utah Geographic Information Council's GeoMentor's Program

GeoMentors will help schools and teachers introduce GIS and associated geographic concepts into classrooms across the country.

Northwest User Group Mentoring Program

The Northwest GIS User Group (NWGIS) is offering a mentorship program for geospatial professionals within the first five years of their career.

For residents of New York state, no mentorship program, but they do have a Professional Development program which is similar in scope but without specific one-on-one opportunities.

International or Overseas Mentoring Programs

W+G Mentorship Programme

The annual W+G Mentorship Programme is an international initiative that brings together women+ who want to connect and grow with one another to thrive in their Geospatial careers. Women in Geospatial (W+G) provides guidance, tools, and opportunities through which cohort members can develop meaningful relationships and achieve their goals together. 

Women in Geospatial (W+G) is based out of the UK. Because the majority of WiGIS members are based out of North America, if you are outside of North America we encourage you to consider this W+G programme.

Africa GeoPortal

The Africa GeoPortal is a group of GIS professionals dedicated to helping others learn the concepts and tools to spatially analyze data to create informative maps. The mentorship program in mainly focused on skill building and is affiliated with Esri.
